People are now appreciating the prettiness of the Town centre and the now seven days a week facilities that are appearing (Bistros and Cafes). People have commented that it is really nice to come to somewhere that isn’t another Clone Town. Beautiful Christmas lights every year and really in keeping with the period feel of the town centre.
The town centre isn’t the only reason. The warmth of welcome from the community, families liking the schools, closeness to countryside and brilliant festivals throughout the year i.e. Calne Bike Meet, The Duck Race, Food & Drink Weekend, Summer & Winter Festivals are just a few of the many.
Taking stock of what SN11 offers there is an immense wealth of activity available. For the sporty there are three sports centres, two swimming pools and various sports clubs including running clubs. For people with other interests there are Choral and Art Societies, Environmental Organisations plus many other hobby clubs and societies.
So many people who worked and lived here twenty to thirty years ago and find the town unrecognisable and feel it a Historic Woollen Town rather than the Meat Factory Town of years gone by.
Bowood House (with Golf course, Hotel and Spa), Calne surrounded by Gorgeous Villages (Cherhill White Horse and Avebury on the doorstep) and a Town full of nice people really going places.
Exciting to watch the transformation and exciting to think what is coming in the next few years.
